How to get prepare fot the first visit?
Women who are pregnant, are asked to download the pdf file that includes doctor’s (who is in charge of pregnancy) agreement for the physiotherapy. Remember it is for your own safe! Woman who is not pregnant or after labour does not have to prepare such an agreement. Make sure you have some comfortable clothes with you.

When should take place the first visit after the childbirth?
We can asses your abdominal muscles condition even during first days after childbirth. Nothing prevents us from adding some pelvic floor muscles activation at the same time. Per vaginum examination is being performed after 6 weeks from the date of childbirth.

Can every physiotherapist evaluate my condition after the pregnancy time and childbirth?
The urogynecological physiotherapy is being in fashion now. But please remember to search for someone who is well educated, certified and has proper qualifications. Most physiotherapists share their certificates, which you can read and check their qualifications. Remember, one cannot be the specialist in every single medicine branch.

I gave birth 4 years ago. Isn’t it too late to visit the urogynecological physiotherapist?
Absolutely not! It is true that the biggest regeneration process is during the postpartum time (first 6 weeks), but if there is any disorder, it is worth to try the rehabilitation even many years later. The health improvement will come, but it is possible that you will have to wait for it a little bit longer.

I was examined by my gynecologist after the childbirth. Is it wort to visit the urogynecological physiotherapist as well?
Doctor’s examination is mandatory after the childbirth to prevent many complications. But doctors while assessing the patients use different methods and scales. The aim of our per vaginum examination is to check the strength, function and endurance of the pelvic floor muscles.

I have never been examined by the urogynecological physiotherapist? Is it painful?
Our examination is similar to typical gynecological examination. It is not painful and is being performed with delicacy. Remember you can always say that you want to stop the examination at any time. We are doing it in supine position on rehabilitation bed, which gives you chance to relax. It is best to plan your visit not during the period.

When can I notice the first effects of the pelvic floor exercises?
Patients notice first effects even after the first week of training. But according to evidenced based medicine, the first effects should be noticed after 3 months of REGULAR exercises.

My mother is 68 years old. She suffers from urinary incontinence while sneezing and laughing. Is it worth to practice the pelvic floor exercises at this age?
It is worth to practice your pelvic floor at every stage of your life. It gives spectacular results also in older people, but they have to remember about regular training.

I am in 29th week of pregnancy. I have urinary incontinence occasionally. My gynecologist says it is absolutely normal. Is it really true?
Unfortunately urinary incontinence while being pregnant is not normal. It always means a disorder. The proper pelvic floor training is able to prevent symptoms from getting worst, especially after the childbirth. When you suffer from urinary incontinence during pregnancy you are more likely to have this problem after the labour.

Can a pregnant woman be massaged? I have often heard that pregnancy is a contraindication to massage.
It is a commonly repeated myth by people who have no ability to work with pregnant women. Massage can help you to overcome the back pain, lumbago, carpal tunnel syndrome and will let you relax, which is important while preparing fot the childbirth. If there are no health contraindications, you can be massaged from the second trimester.
